What to ask a kosher private chef before you book

Short and practical.

Chopped salads, beets and dips on a kitchen counterHeirloom tomatoes with burrata and basil

Which standards do you cook to?

Households and communities keep different standards. Say yours clearly at the start so the chef plans ingredients, tools and the kitchen around them.

How is the kitchen handled?

Ask how the chef prepares your kitchen and which tools and cookware will be used, and tell the chef your own rules.

Who buys the ingredients?

Agree on brands, products and sources that match your standards, and whether supervision is required for any item.

How is timing handled for Shabbat and holidays?

For Shabbat and Yom Tov meals, agree in advance on what is cooked before it begins and how food is kept warm.

Is the menu meat, dairy or pareve?

Decide this before the menu is written. A strong menu works within one category without feeling limited.
